Magnificent antique French enamel 18th century artist signed in gold in the lower right H. DOUBLET. Hubert Doublet, a listed French painter born in Paris, died January 8, 1719. Doublet's enamels are the most important and highest quality 18th and 17th century French enamels that exist today. This example is a superb composition depicting an artist pondering his next painting. Behind him two semi nude models vie for his attention. Beautiful early 19th Century French enamel depicting a partially nude lady giving jewelry to a child while two other children are quarrelling by her feet. She has her jewelry box opened with one hand as she tosses jewelry with her other hand to one of the children. The enamel is signed A. Loire in the upper right-hand corner. It is highlighted with gold. The background has architectural columns and buildings. The enamel is in nearly mint condition showing only minor rubbing with no enamel loss. Rare antique painting on porcelain plaque depicting a nude Cleopatra holding the poisonous asp as she lies on her day bed dying from being bitten. The plaque is painted in colors usually seen in old master paintings. This is a very unusual subject to find on a painted porcelain plaque. It looks like an old master painting. The plaque has a couple of scratches . One scratch runs from her knee towards the bottom of her sheet measuring approximately 1/2 inch. There is another scratch above her left hand. These scratches could be touched up by a professional restorer to make them invisible. We chose to leave it as is the way we bought it. The plaque measures 6-1/4 inches wide by 4-3/8 inches high. The frame measures 11-3/4 inches wide by 9-3/4 inches high. The frame is a very unusual one with carved flowers attached to the cloth part of the wood frame. The frame has some losses to the gilding but even with the two scratches on the plaque and minor loss to the gilt frame this is still a very beautiful and rare plaque that would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
