Beautiful Antique Painted Porcelan Plaque Lady Priestess With Carved Gilt Wood Frame. The plaque measures 6-1/8 inches high by 4-1/8 inches wide. It is artist signed in lower left on the front of the plaque. The lower right section of the back of the plaque plaque in blue glaze has the title After C. Fould (Consuelo Fould French 1862- 1927) This painting on porcelian plaque is after the original by Consuelo Fould. Most paintings on porcelian plaques are minuture versions of important oil paintings. We found a painting by this artist that sold at Southeby's in New York May 7th 1998. It was an oil on panel titled Les salamandres. It sold for $68,500. The painting on porcelian plaque that we have is after the original by the artist. It depicts three women trying on and examining jewelry with Achilles and his sword. Rather than allow her son Achilles to die at Troy as prophesied, the nymph Thetis sent him, disguised as a female attendant, to the court of Lycomedes, King of Skyros. At the King’s court, Achilles fell into a trap and was unmasked by Odysseus. By offering Achilles a choice of gifts, adornments, musical instruments or weapons of war, Achilles was tricked into revealing his true identity. Achilles chose the sword. This plaque is skillfully painted and very beautiful. The back has the KPM scepter mark. It is also inscribed KPM with incised numbers 255 and 195 below the K.P.M. markings.
