These lovely German silver wedding cups are beautifully crafted symbols of wedded bliss. These lovely traditional silver German wedding cups may take the form of a man or woman, each holding an ornate basket above their head also known as bridal or maiden cups, these intricately decorated vessels are comprised of 2 cups, the smaller suspended from floral garlands, and larger fashioned of the figure's skirts. These striking designs enables the bride and groom to symbolically take their first drink as husband and wife from the same cup. These rare items were crafted for well to do individuals. The wedding cups date back to 15th century Germany to the town of Nuremberg where it remains a symbol of love, faithfulness and luck. Legend has it that the first wedding cup was created by a goldsmith wishing to marry a noble woman, was challenged by her father to create a cup they could both drink from at the same time without spilling a single drop. These are wonderful pieces for toasting a special couple. The cup is crafted depicting a maiden holding a moving cup above her head, her skirt makes up the other cup. It has marked 800 on her left arm, indicating the purity mark for the silver. Her skirt has a rococo style cartouche on both sides with high relief sculptured flowers and hand chasing all around her skirt. The top cup rotates back and forth. It can be turned over and the bottom cup can be filled and also used for drinking. This is a rare 19th century item in excellent condition. Weight 18.7 grams. It measures 2-5/8 inches high. Guaranteed to please as are all our items. 74353: Antique German 800 Silver Gilt 3 Perfume Bottles & Holder Set - $610.00 The holder is gold over silver. It has German hallmarks and is also marked Germany. One side of the holder has a high relief sculptured lady with a cherub above her, she is pouring from a horn of plenty what looks like wine into a ewer. One side has 2 musicians, one playing a string instrument the other a horn. The background of the musicians is high relief sculptured designs with plants flowers and foliate design. The other side has the same high relief sculpture of the lady with the cherub and ewer. As you turn to look at the 4th side you see the musicians again. The underside is inscribed Germany and has 2 hallmarks indicating the maker and purity. The 3 perfume bottles are very unusual, 2 have a demi-lune shape and one is a square. They fit perfectly in the perfume bottle holder and conform to each other. Each bottle has engraved etched floral designs at the top front. The square one has the designs on the top and sides, it has one chip above the bottom corner that can only be seen when you take it out of the holder. Other than that all of the pieces are in excellent condition with their original stoppers. The stoppers are also 800 silver and the rims are 800 silver. The small chip on the square bottle is along the edge, it can be professionally smoothed out if one so desires. We are selling it in the same condition we bought it in. this lovely antique silver gilt 3 perfume bottle set with holder will look beautiful on any lady's vanity or in a collectors cabinet. Items like this are rarely found. They were made for very wealthy people in the late 1800s and were considered treasured gifts. The back of the case is monogrammed JS, it has a cigar, a mug of beer and a smoking pipe. The quality of the sculpture is well defined, the men are sculptured in high relief all with hats and one with a walking stick. The case measures 2-3/8 inches high by 1-5/8 inches wide. Weight 28.7 grams. The case has some dings on the back, it looks like it was certainly enjoyed over the years. The front of the case is in nice condition with no dings or dents.
